The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly planning to trade or release veteran quarterback Geno Smith before the start of the NFL's new league year on Wednesday, according to a Fox News Digital report.[1][2]

Geno Smith, born December 27, 1990, is a 34-year-old NFL quarterback who has spent the past five seasons as starter for the Seattle Seahawks.[3][4] The Raiders play their home games at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.[5][6]

Tom Brady, a minority owner of the Raiders since October 2023, has previously expressed support for developing young quarterbacks gradually rather than starting them immediately.[7][8]

The NFL league year typically begins on the second or third Wednesday in March at 4 p.m. ET, marking the start of the new contract year when salary cap figures are set and trades can be processed without restrictions.[9][10]
