Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts opened up about a moment of self-doubt during his college career in an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America," where he promoted his new book "Better Than a Touchdown."[1]
The show's hosts played a video from a fan asking Hurts if there was ever a time he considered quitting football and how he overcame self-doubt. Hurts responded: "A time where I wanted to quit... There was a time in college where I really questioned, 'What's going on? Where do I go from here?' I had a lot of adversity in front of me. I was counted out. I was doubted."[1]
Hurts credited perseverance: "My passion overcame every ounce of doubt, overcame every ounce of fear... You gotta have the courage to press forward."[1]
Hurts started as quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2016, leading the team to the College Football Playoff National Championship as a freshman.[2][3] He was replaced at halftime by Tua Tagovailoa during the SEC Championship Game against Georgia on December 1, 2018, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta; Tagovailoa threw two touchdown passes in overtime for a 35-28 victory.[3][4]
Hurts transferred to the University of Oklahoma for the 2019 season, passing for 3,821 yards and 32 touchdowns.[2][5]
The Eagles selected Hurts in the second round, 53rd overall, of the 2020 NFL Draft.[5][6] He won the starting job and led Philadelphia to Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.[6]
Hurts earned Pro Bowl honors following the 2022 and 2023 seasons.[5]
