New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was booed by fans during player introductions prior to Great Britain's Pool B matchup against Mexico at Daikin Park in Houston on March 6, 2026. According to USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale, Chisholm was the only Great Britain player to receive boos and was jeered each time he stepped to the plate.

Chisholm, a 27-year-old switch-hitting infielder/outfielder born in Nassau, Bahamas, qualified for Great Britain under World Baseball Classic eligibility rules as the Bahamas is a Commonwealth nation.[1][2]

The 2026 World Baseball Classic marks the tournament's return following the 2023 edition. Pool B features the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, Colombia, Brazil and Panama, with games hosted at Minute Maid Park (also referred to as Daikin Park for the event) in Houston from March 6 to 11.[3][4]

Chisholm committed to Great Britain for the tournament in October 2023.[1]

Chisholm drew criticism during the 2024 MLB season with the Yankees. On June 11, 2024, he was ejected from a game against the Kansas City Royals and fined $2,000 by Major League Baseball for posting inappropriate language on social media afterward.[5]

On August 23, 2024, in a game against the Miami Marlins, Chisholm was doubled off first base after straying too far during a pop-up by teammate Paul Goldschmidt, resulting in an inning-ending double play.[6]

Chisholm defended the baserunning decision postgame, citing an intent to be aggressive and pressure the defense. Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay questioned the play on air.[6]

In a March 27, 2024, interview with The Athletic, Chisholm described baseball as a "white sport" and stated he often broke the sport's unwritten rules.[7]

The reason for the fan reaction during the World Baseball Classic game was not immediately clear. Great Britain's next pool game schedule follows the tournament format, with advancement to quarterfinals determined by top two finishers.
