The Las Vegas Raiders announced on Tuesday that the Baltimore Ravens had withdrawn from a trade agreement that would have sent defensive end Maxx Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for multiple draft picks.[1][2]

In a statement, the Raiders said: "The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time."[1]

ESPN, citing league sources, reported the Ravens' decision stemmed from medical concerns that emerged during Crosby's physical examination. All NFL trades are contingent upon the player passing a physical.[2][3]

Crosby, a 28-year-old defensive end who has spent his entire six-year NFL career with the Raiders after being selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft from Eastern Michigan, is a four-time Pro Bowl selection (2021-2024).[3][4][5]

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound edge rusher had led the Raiders in sacks each season since 2020, recording 14.5 sacks in 2023 despite missing time with injuries.[3][4]

Crosby's wife, Rachel, and his agent, C.J. LaBoy, publicly defended the player's recovery status following the failed deal. LaBoy stated Crosby was "on track" and ahead of schedule per surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed prior surgery on Crosby's biceps tendon in September 2023.[2][5]

Dr. ElAttrache, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, provided an update noting Crosby was progressing well early in rehabilitation and that the timing of the physical posed challenges for risk assessment.[2]

Crosby signed a four-year, $98.5 million contract extension with the Raiders in March 2024.[3][4]
