Kyler Murray, quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, was selected first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.[1][2]

In July 2022, Murray signed a five-year contract extension with the Cardinals worth $230.4 million, including $160 million in guarantees.[3][4] The deal runs through the 2026 season, with his 2025 base salary of $36.8 million fully guaranteed.[3]

Murray earned Pro Bowl selections in 2020 and 2021. In 2020, he rushed for 771 yards and 11 touchdowns.[1][2] The following year, he passed for 3,787 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 423 rushing yards and five rushing scores.[1][2]

Injuries have impacted his career, including a torn ACL suffered in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles on December 12, 2022. He missed the remainder of that season and the first eight games of 2023.[1][5]

Through the 2023 season, Murray appeared in 67 games with 66 starts, compiling a 28-38-1 record.[1] He has been the Cardinals' starter under head coach Jonathan Gannon, hired ahead of the 2023 season.

For context, Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed his rookie season after undergoing knee surgery for a torn meniscus sustained in preseason.[2][5]
