The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday the signing of Carson Towt, a 24-year-old forward from the University of Notre Dame men's basketball team, with intentions to convert him to a tight end.[1][2]

Towt, listed at 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds, has no recorded experience playing organized football at the high school or college level. He spent five seasons with Northern Arizona University from 2019-20 to 2023-24 before transferring to Notre Dame for his final collegiate season in 2024-25.[3][4]

During his time at Northern Arizona, Towt averaged 10.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game over 104 appearances. In the 2023-24 season, he recorded 370 rebounds, the second-most in Big Sky Conference single-season history.[5][6]

In 31 games for Notre Dame during the 2024-25 season, Towt averaged 5.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.[1][3]

The Colts have previously converted college basketball players to tight ends with success. Mo Alie-Cox, who played at Virginia Commonwealth University, joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017. Through the 2024 NFL season, Alie-Cox has 92 receptions for 1,068 yards and 9 touchdowns in 96 games.[7][8]
