Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Taylor told the New York Post that Alabama Crimson Tide guard Aden Holloway was arrested on Monday for possession of marijuana, days before the team's NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament opener.

Taylor said agents from the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched a residence Monday morning and found more than a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash. Holloway, 21, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp.

He was booked into Tuscaloosa County Jail at 9:48 a.m. and released at 10:45 a.m. on $5,000 bond.

Holloway, a junior guard, transferred to Alabama from Auburn after his freshman season in 2023-24, during which he appeared in 33 games and averaged 3.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.[1][2]

The Crimson Tide, coached by Nate Oats, are set to play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Tampa, Florida. It remains unclear whether Holloway will face team discipline ahead of the game.

In June 2024, the NCAA Division I Council removed cannabis from the list of banned substances for championships and postseason football.[3][4]
