San Francisco 49ers defensive end Bryce Huff announced on Thursday that he is retiring from the NFL after six seasons. Huff is 27 years old.[1]

Huff signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in May 2020 following his college career at the University of Memphis.[2][3] Over four seasons with the Jets from 2020 to 2023, he appeared in 58 games, recording 65 combined tackles and 17.5 sacks.[3][4]

In March 2024, Huff signed a three-year contract worth $51 million with the Philadelphia Eagles, a deal reported as the richest ever for an undrafted non-quarterback.[2][5] He played in nine games during the 2024 regular season.[3][4]

The 49ers acquired Huff from the Eagles in a trade during the 2025 offseason, according to reports.[1] Huff described his time with the Jets as formative, crediting coaches Gregg Williams, Blake Williams and Robert Saleh for his development.[1]

In an Instagram video, Huff reflected on his career: "I'm retiring from football. I started playing football when I was 4 years old... The game taught me perseverance, it taught me discipline."[1] He stated he plans to focus on his lithium battery company, which aims to reduce fire risks.[1]

Huff spent one season with the Eagles, where the team won the Super Bowl, per his statement.[1]
